A group of 97 migrants was brought to Malta last night after their boat was intercepted some seven nautical miles off Marsaxlokk.

The migrants - 91 men, five women (one of whom is pregnant ) and a baby were transferred to a rescue launch since their boat was sinking.

The group was the first to arrive since Wednesday last week when 270 arrived in three boats.

A group of almost 300 had arrived a few days previously.
