Romeu: Valencia have agreed to take Oriol Romeu on loan from Chelsea next season as they seek to bolster their midfield for their domestic and Europa League campaigns. The 21-year-old is a product of Barcelona’s youth academy. Romeu, who moved to London from Barca in the summer of 2011, made nine appearances for Chelsea last term but missed the second half of the season due to injury.

Vermaelen: Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has been ruled out of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia because of injury. Arsene Wenger took his squad to Jakarta this week as the squad begin their preparations for the new campaign. However, the Belgium international stayed behind as he starts his rehabilitation on a back problem.

Seferovic: Real Sociedad have signed Switzerland international Haris Seferovic from Fiorentina. The 21-year-old striker completed his medical before penning a four-year contract with the Primera Division outfit. Seferovic, who becomes Sociedad’s second summer signing after the return of Jose Angel on loan, joined Fiorentina from Grasshoppers in 2010 and has spent loan spells at Neuchatel Xamax, Lecce and Novara in the last three years.

Mitov: Levski Sofia’s early exit from the Europa League has cost Nikolay Mitov his job as coach of the 26-times Bulgarian champions. Levski were knocked out of the competition by unfancied Kazakhstan side Irtysh Pavlodar 2-0 on aggregate. Irtysh are sixth in the Kazakhstan’s league after 18 matches.

Gold Cup: Gabriel Torres converted an 85th-minute penalty to guide Panama into the Gold Cup quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over Martinique on Thursday, before Mexico beat Canada 2-0 to pick up their first victory of the competition. Panama top Group A on six points from two games, ahead of Martinique and Mexico on three points apiece with Canada propping up the standings after two straight losses.
