Forty players will be sweating it out during the fifth edition of the volleyball marathon in aid of id-Dar tal-Providenza between today and Sunday.

The marathon event will be staged at the Dar tal-Providenza car park in Siġġiewi, promoting the theme ‘Sabiħ li Tagħti’ (It’s good to donate).

The past few weeks have been very intensive for all participating players who have been training hard to be physically and mentally prepared for the 53-hour challenge of continuous volleyball playing.

Id-Dar tal-Providenza was founded by Mgr Mikiel Azzopardi in 1965 to provide accommodation to persons with special needs. The home offers respite to a number of families who have a member suffering from a disability. Currently, id-Dar tal-Providenza is home to 99 residents.

President George Abela will inaugurate the marathon this evening at 6. Apart from the action on the volleyball courts, a number of leading singers and dancers will provide entertainment on the main stage.

This annual volleyball marathon is a platform for Id-Dar tal-Providenza to encourage the general public to participate and donate funds to support its priceless work.

Donations can be made on the following telephone numbers: 50602011 (€10); 50602012 (€15); 50602013 (€25); SMS 50618944 (€7); BOV Mobile Pay (79324834).
