A nursing officer has filed a judicial protest against the Minister of Health after having been transferred to Boffa Hospital. She had served at St Luke's and then Mater Dei, since 1982 and was never subject to any disciplinary action.

Frances Anastasi said her transfer was unjustified and it was clear that this was vindictive. The transfer, she said, would cause her serious psychological harm, as confirmed by a certificate issued by a psychiatrist.

The NO said that a short time before she was told of the transfer, she had herself requested a transfer to Mosta health centre because of serious family problems. But once the situation deteriorated, she had been about to withdraw her request.

She had met the minister to argue against her transfer and explain her personal circumstances. The minister had asked her where else she could serve within Mater Dei, but later sent her a message saying no one was ready to accept her at Mater Dei. He expressed his regret.
