An appeal court today confirmed a five-year jail term for mini-bus driver Joseph Leone Ganado, 59, who had been convicted in 2005 of defiling four school girls aged under 12.

The court said that while the actions of the accused may have started as a joke, the situation became much more serious when the girls started to recount what had happened on the school van.

There was no doubt that the accused had carried out shameful acts which constituted corruption of minors and penalty fit the crime.
