The turning of Bizazza Street in Sliema into a pedestrian zone, coupled with the installation of two sets of traffic lights at the Ferries area on the way to Gżira, are causing major traffic jams at Tigné seafront.

That the pedestrianisation of Bizazza Street has been a big mistake is all too obvious. It is unnecessarily forcing traffic from Tower Road to pass through the Tigné tunnel, adding tons of emissions, when Bizazza Street offered a short cut.

Moreover, the pedestrian zone has not been welcomed by most of the business community and the residents of Bizazza Street.

The street is not even attractive for a stroll, as it slopes quite heavily.

As a result of having Bizazza Street pedestrianised, two beautiful stretches of coastline, namely Qui-Si-Sana and Tigné seafronts, have been turned into heavily traffic-congested roads. In particular, Tigné Seafront, which offers one of the most picturesque seascapes in Malta, has become one of the most polluted streets in Sliema.

With the installation of the two sets of traffic lights at the Ferries, traffic constantly jams on this stretch of road.

I therefore propose that Bizazza Street be de-pedestrianised and that one of the sets of traffic lights be removed.
