Fernando Llorente hopes his determination to help Juventus win a third consecutive Serie A title earns him a return to the Spain fold.

The 28-year-old yesterday met reporters in Turin after completing his free transfer from Athletic Bilbao having agreed a four-year contract with Juve in January.

Llorente found his chances with Bilbao limited since falling out with the Basque club’s management last August and, while using some of his spare time to begin learning Italian, he managed just five goals in 36 matches during his final year at San Mames.

His last appearance for Vicente del Bosque’s Spain came against Scotland in October 2011 but the imposing striker hopes his subscription to the Juve cause will allow him to get his career “back on track”.

He told the club’s official website: “For me it’s a dream to be here.

“Juventus is a fantastic club and I believe the club is perfect for someone like me who always wants to improve.

“Last year the team played beautiful football and deserved to win the league. I hope we can do the same next season.”

The Spaniard follows Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez to Italy and will meet head coach Antonio Conte in the coming days before becoming acquainted with fellow forwards Sebastian Giovinco, Alessandro Matri, Fabio Quagliarella and Mirko Vucinic.

“There are six strikers at the club and they’re all ready to do well,” Llorente added.

“It’s up to the coach to decide who goes out on the pitch. I’m just happy to pull on such a prestigious shirt and I want to thank the fans for the wonderful welcome they’ve given me. It’s been incredible.”
