The MRI equipment at Mater Dei Hospital broke down during a normal maintenance procedure this morning, the Health Ministry said.
It said in a statement this evening it immediately took the matter in hand and issued an expression of interest to outsource this service, so that the service given to the patients requiring an MRI test would continue as normal.
Patients who have appointments at the Radiology Department for an MRI are now temporarily being referred to the private sector for their appointment.
All patients are being contacted and informed about these developments from the Radiology Department at Matr Dei Hospital.
The MRI equipment at Mater Dei Hospital is being serviced by the contractor.
