An intensive dance summer school, Living Dance, is being held in Gozo for the sixth year running. The course is being offered on both a residential and non-residential basis.

Living Dance is a dance course for students from all dance schools, giving them the opportunity to be taught by an expert team of local and foreign teachers.

The course aims to help dancers strengthen and improve their technique, as well as giving them a taste of life as a full-time dance student.

Students will take part in daily classes in the various disciplines, leading to a performance for parents at the end of the course.

A scholarship for a dance course in the UK will be awarded to the most promising dancer. Last year’s winner Leanne Muscat Drago will be attending a performance course at the Royal Academy of Dance.

The course includes intensive courses in ballet, repertoire, jazz, hip hop, contemporary and musical theatre. In addition to the resident faculty teachers Emma Loftus and Sandra Mifsud, three guest tutors will be joining the team this year: Douglas Comely, who was also part of the team last year; Sharon Johnston, dance teacher, director, choreographer and owner of Kinetix Dance School, Ireland; and Maltese dancer Warren Bonello.

Living Dance 2013 is open to students aged seven upwards, with a residential option for students aged 10 and over.

Students choosing the residential option will have full-board accommodation and organised, onsite, evening activities. Lunch will be served to students attending on a non-residential basis.

The course will be held at Ta’ Sbejħa in Għarb, between September 9 and 14. A junior course will be held between September 12 and 14 for dancers aged seven to nine.
