Two bronze medals were recently awarded to two different Maltese wines in competitions held in Bordeaux and London – and both are produced by Emmanuel Delicata.

The 2012 vintage Victoria Heights Chardonnay and the 2010 vintage Grand Vin de Hauteville Moscato were awarded a bronze medal each, bringing Delicata’s total international wine medal count up to an impressive 85 awards.

Grand Vin de Hauteville Moscato D.O.K. Malta Liqueur Wine was awarded the bronze medal at The Challenge International du Vin held in Bordeaux, France. The medal-winning wine is a relative newcomer to Delicata’s portfolio and has only been around for less than two years. This is the second vintage produced by Delicata and the first time it has been entered in an international wine competition.

Fast on its heels, however, was yet another bronze medal for the 2012 Victoria Heights Chardonnay, awarded at the prestigious International Wine Challenge held in London.

The official tasting note from the judges describes the Victoria Heights Chardonnay, which is made exclusively from Gozo-grown Chardonnay grapes as: “Fresh cut apples on the nose followed by a crisp lemony palate; Very big style, best with freshly grilled fish.” I

In its 30th year, the International Wine Challenge is accepted as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged competition. The IWC assesses every wine ‘blind’ and judges each for its faithfulness to style, region and vintage. Each medal winning wine is tasted on at least three separate occasions by a minimum of 10 different judges.

Next month the Victoria Heights Chardonnay (and Merlot) will also be available in 37.5cl half-bottles for the first time.
