Athletics: Two-time Olympic and reigning 200m world champion Veronica Campbell-Brown has been provisionally suspended from competition, the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Associa-tion confirmed last night. Campbell-Brown, 31, is reported to have failed a drugs test for a banned diuretic commonly used as a masking agent.

Motor Racing: Former F1 commentator Murray Walker, whose enthu-siastic style during decades be-hind the microphone has made him a household name in Bri-tain, has been diagnosed with cancer. The 89-year-old, whose catchphrase is “Unless I am very mistaken... and I am very much mistaken”, has a treatable form of lymphatic system cancer. “They’ve caught it incredibly early. It’s treatable, the doctors say my condition is mild and I’m very hopeful,” Walker said.

Rugby Tour: The ACT Brumbies defended superbly under huge pressure to upset the British and Irish Lions 14-12 in Canberra yesterday and end the tourists’ unbeaten run on their Australian tour. Tevita Kuridrani scored the match’s sole try and Jesse Mogg slotted three penalties for the hosts who held on grimly to delight more than 21,000 fans. Replacement flyhalf Owen Farrell kicked the tourists to within two points with nine minutes to play, but the Lions slumped to their first non-test tour match loss since being defeated by the New Zealand Maori in 2005.

Horse Racing: American raider Animal Kingdom’s bid to add a Royal Ascot victory to his Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup successes ended in huge disappointment when he finished unplaced in the Queen Anne Stakes yesterday. Animal Kingdom had been acclimatising in Britain since winning the world’s richest horse race, the Dubai World Cup, in March. But the five-year-old was struggling from halfway as jockey Joseph O’Brien came with a powerful late run on Declaration of War to take the opening contest of the prestigious five-day meeting.
