The first ever comprehensive, scientific manual on local Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) was presented by Alan Deidun to President George Abela to commemorate Maritime Day, International Day for Biodiversity and World Environment Day.

The manual, which features the two local MPAs of Dwejra and Rdum Majjiesa, is co-authored in English and Italian by Dr Deidun and Fabrizio Gianni and by co-workers Adam Gauci and Marija Attard.

The scientific manual, aimed at laymen, sea enthusiasts and researchers alike, gives a kaleidoscopic overview of the submerged assets endowing the two MPAs.

The presentation took place in the presence of representatives from local diving clubs and the Malta Tourism Authority at the Palace.

Educational brochures on marine habitats and species, underwater documentaries and postcards were also developed within the same Panacea project, which also saw the first ever marine environmental education centre opened at Dwejra.
