The launching of a book of stories and mosaics specifically created by children for children as part of the Kreattiv scheme was launched in the Amphitheatre at the Villa Rundle Garden, Victoria, last Tuesday.
The full-colour, 28-page book consists of the stories and photos of the mosaic portraits created by the children in Kinder 2 from six schools, including Victoria, Għarb, Nadur, Xagħra, Xewkija and Żebbuġ.
Gozitan youth author Francesco Pio Attard and mosiac artist Mary Portelli met the children in their respective schools over the past year to work on the project together.
The project’s aim was to stimulate artistic creativity in children – narrative literature in Maltese and the design creation using mosaics.
As part of this creative experience, the children also had the opportunity to visit a printing press in Qala to view the whole process involved in book printing.
The six mosaic works of art will be on show at the Gozo Public Library, St Francis Square, Victoria, until Wednesday.
The book, designed by Mario Abela, is available for sale at €1 from the library or from Victoria Primary School in Vajrinġa Street.
