St Aloysius’ College recently won the seventh edition of the Malta Mathematics Olympiad. It was the fourth time the college won the competition, which aims to identify talented maths students and foster problem-solving skills and a positive attitude towards maths in young students.
The school’s winning team was made up of Raphael Farrugia, David Mangion, Jake Schembri and Enrico Zammit Lonardelli, coached by Jeanette Aquilina.
Farrugia and Schembri also placed first and second respectively in the Olympiad’s individual competition.
Thirty local colleges and schools took part in this year’s competition, which is organised every two years by the Malta Mathematical Society and the Curriculum Management and eLearning Department. It was first held in 2000.
