Former European Commissioner and Foreign Minister Joe Borg has been appointed to head a Nationalist Party commission which will review the process for the selection of election candidates by the party.

The appointment was made by party leader Simon Busuttil.

The other commission members are Isabel Vella, former minister Louis Deguara, Dr Maria Cassar, former MP Dr Noel Buttigieg Scicluna, Saviour Sciberras and Dr Karon Aquilina as president of the PN administrative council.

The commission will establish the standards expected of PN candidates and a code of ethics they would be expected to follow.

A preliminary report will be submitted by the end of next month.

The commission will also submit a preliminary list of persons who may be considered as suitable as candidates for next year's European Parliament elections.

Dr Busuttil thanked Dr Borg and the other commission members for accepting to serve and said the commission's work was an important step in the process of renewal which the PN is undergoing.

The PN, he said, wanted to have a strong team of trained candidates for all of the elections it contested.
