On a high after their 15-5 hammering of rivals Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate on Wednesday, champions Nep-tunes Emirates are widely tipped to maintain their perfect start in the National League when they take on Sirens Ritter Sport tomorrow.

With joint-leaders San Ġiljan Sir Alex inactive this weekend, Neptunes will go three points clear at the top if they take their third win in as many games.

Although these are still early days, Neptunes’ record win against their bitter rivals sent shockwaves through Maltese waterpolo as the Reds produced a commanding display that further cemented their status as favourites to retain the title.

Tamas Molnar and Aleksandar Ciric hit three goals each but the foreign ‘stars’ were eclipsed by Neptunes’ home-grown ace Steve Camilleri who ended the contest with six goals to his name.

Although Neptunes appear too strong for Sirens, coach Sergey Markoch will surely warn his charges not to take their opponents lightly as a complacent approach could backfire against the St Paul’s Bay team who are eyeing an improved showing after their opening 14-9 defeat to San Ġiljan.

Sliema’s abject display against Neptunes will have filled Exiles Ferretti with optimism ahead of their clash with their neighbours this evening.

Both teams are still looking for their first win as Exiles, led by the coaching tandem of Aurelien Cousin and John Paris, went down to Neptunes in their first game while Sliema have lost two in a row after their 11-10 upset to San Ġiljan in their opening match.

With their title hopes already looking slim, Sliema know only a victory could kickstart their recovery.

Judging by the results of the opening games, the Division One league promises to offer plenty of excitement as there is balance between the top three teams.

Having bounced back from their defeat to Ta’ Xbiex Amigos with a hard-fought 9-8 win over Valletta, Marsascala Mor€ should collect their second win when they meet Marsaxlokk who lost to the City club in their opener.

Tomorrow, Valletta will be aiming to get back on the winning trail when they face Otters Nivea whose creditable 6-6 draw with early leaders Ta’ Xbiex will have enhanced their optimism and self-belief.

Today: Division One 6pm Marsascala vs Marsaxlokk; Premier League 7.15pm Sliema vs Exiles.

Tomorrow: 4.45pm Ta’ Xbiex vs ASA U-17; Division One 6pm Otters vs Valletta; Premier League 7.15pm Sirens vs Neptunes.
