The curtains came down on yet another Premier League season last month.

While there was no doubt about who will win the championship crown, the other domestic prizes were up for grabs.

After taking top spot in the Premier League standings in November, Manchester United maintained their stranglehold on the cham-pionship crown and assured themselves of a record 20th league title with four matches to spare.

Unfancied clubs Swansea and Wigan rewrote their history after achieving success in the other domestic knock-out competitions.

The Swans, under the leadership of Michael Laudrup, lifted the League Cup trophy after hammering Bradford City, the competition’s giant-killers, in the final.

Wigan created the biggest surprise of the season when they stunned Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium. A few days after their FA Cup triumph, Wigan were relegated from the Premier League.

In UEFA club competitions, Chelsea restored some pride to English football after winning the Europa League.

For the Blues, this was their second successive title on the continent after lifting the Champions League the previous season.

Manchester United were joined by Manchester City and Chelsea in the group stages of the Champions League while Arsenal will play in the play-off round.

Wigan will enter the group stages of the Europa League while Tottenham start their campaign in the play-off round. Swansea, on their part, will feature in the third qualifying round.

Meanwhile, the Premier League has agreed new parachute payments for relegated teams.

The three clubs who lost their Premier League status, QPR, Reading and Wigan, will receive £48m over a four-year period.
