The Nationalist Party has accused the government of playing with the people’s emotions on a delicate health topic with its toing and froing on the provision of chemotherapy in Gozo.

The government yesterday said that Gozitans cancer patients who needed to travel to Malta for chemotherapy would be offered free transport from Gozo, including a car rental service, until the Government fulfilled its promise to offer chemotherapy in Gozo.

Last Sunday’s The Sunday Times of Malta quoted the Health Ministry saying that Gozitan cancer patients would have to wait longer to start receiving chemotherapy in Gozo since the it could not implement the service promised by the previous government due to lack of funds.

The PN said in its statement that the present government had decided to stop the project, embarked upon by the previous government and it was only after its mask was uncovered that it decided to continue working on it.

The Labour government, the PN said, was using finances as an excuse to postpone the service.

However, the ministry found the money to employ a substantial number of people from outside the public service, including people who were close to his partner.
