Italy and the UK remain the most popular destinations with Maltese tourists as outbound trips in April totalled 25,381 - an increase of 12.4 per cent over the same month last year.

The National Statistics Office said 21,481 (+10 per cent) visited EU countries. Visitors to non-EU destinations increased by 29 per cent.

Outbound tourism since January stood at 98,106 - an increase of 14 per cent over 2012. An estimated 86 per cent of outbound tourists chose EU destinations, with Italy and the UK ranking as the most popular.

Trips to Italy increased by 12 per cent, to the UK by 13 per cent. Increases were registered in both EU and non-EU trips, reaching 84,326 and 13,780, respectively.
