The Sette Giugno 1919 riots were marked last Thursday with Mass by archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo at Xagħra, with the participation of Xagħra primary schoolchildren, followed by a commemorative event in Bullara Street, where one of the riots’ victims, Giuseppe Bajada, lived.

After the sounding of the Last Post and Reveille by the Armed Forces of Malta, wreaths and flowers were placed at the foot of a plaque on Bajada’s house façade.

Among those paying tribute to Bajada were the Gozo Minister’s wife Lina Refalo, president of the national and regional celebrations committee Mgr Joe Vella Gauci and Xagħra mayor Joe Cordina.
