Beauty and the polar circle

It was aboard Vagabond – the world’s smallest floating laboratory – that Daniel Kurbiel, born into a family of polar explorers, discovered what the Arctic has to offer.

Inspired by scientific discoveries about the unique and incomparable properties of plants in the polar regions, Kurbiel, together with fellow graduate Karine Roche, created their own skin care brand, Polaar.

The union between cosmetics and the polar world led to a simple philosophy that seeks to enhance the skin’s beauty through the wealth of active ingredients found in the polar region.

Polaar benefits from the most innovative discoveries in terms of active ingredients with exceptional properties. The brand philosophy is to employ the polar flora from the Arctic and Antarctic in all of their formulations.

To survive and thrive in extreme climatic conditions (-45°C, winds up to 220 km/h, and the alternating of six months of continuous light and six months of darkness), the flora has developed unique properties, providing active ingredients with incredible efficacy.

These algae, berries, marine micro-organisms and the recently discovered extremophile organisms are at the heart of every Polaar product. Among others, these include Thalassiosira antartica, a polar micro-alga that lives 3,760 metres under the glaciers; Siberian olive, which has a concentration of vitamins, polyphenols and more Omega 3, 6, 9 than any other plant in the northern hemisphere; and PPNF3 Antarctica, a polypeptide synthesised by a micro-organism discovered in a glacier located in Admiral’s Bay in the Antarctic.
