Forty final-year Bachelor of Commerce students conducted a study visit to Brussels, organised by the Public Policy Department and sponsored by the European Parliament.

At the European Commission, the students had meetings with Commissioner Tonio Borg, as well as with other experts and officials, including members of the Malta-EU accession negotiating team.

The group also spent a day at the European Parliament observing proceedings in committees, attending an information seminar and holding a question-and-answer session with MEP Joseph Cuschieri.

During a visit to Malta House, the students also met with the Permanent Representative of Malta to the EU, Ambassador Marlene Bonnici.

The study trip provided students with an insight into policy-making at European level and gave them exposure to high-level officials in different institutions.

Meanwhile, students on the Master’s course in Interpreting Studies spent three days in Brussels conducting familiarisation visits to the European Commission and European Parliament.

At the Commission, they had practical sessions in dummy interpreter booths. They also met head of unit Peter Mifsud and former student interpreters who are full-time employees with EU institutions.

The visit was organised by Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies head Joseph Eynaud, in collaboration with Marta Kakol from the European Commission.
