Chelsea and Everton will be starting the new season in England under the charge of new managers.

Rafa Benitez’s time at Chelsea was over last month and, after 11 years at Goodison Park, David Moyes left Everton for the job all managers would have lined up for at Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge as it was deemed that Benitez had delivered the goods at Chelsea, leading them to the Europa League title, defeating Benfica in the final.

Actually, Chelsea had two managers last season.

After the 2012 Champions League success, club supremo Roman Abramovich spared Roberto di Matteo from the axe.

Yet, the Russian mogul was never convinced of Di Matteo’s credentials and the Italian was soon shown the back door as Benitez stepped in as interim manager.

In the Premier League standings, Chelsea finished in third place, earning a place in the group phase of the Champions League next season.

Chelsea’s 2012-13 campaign took in 69 matches (147 goals), played in 11 different countries and across eight competitions.

At Goodison Park, Moyes failed to win a trophy during his 11-year stint at the Mer-seyside club. However, Alex Ferguson still trusted him with the job at Old Trafford.

The biggest shock for Moyes last season was when his side, the dark horses for the FA Cup, went down to eventual winners Wigan 0-3 at Goodison Park in the quarter-finals.

In the League Cup, Everton lasted until round three where they lost 1-2 to Leeds.

Chelsea failed miserably in the Champions League last season, failing to finish first or second in their group. However, in the Europa League they showed their true mettle to claim the title in Amsterdam.

Earlier in the season, the Blues lost in the final to Brazilian side Corinthians in the FIFA Club World Cup tournament.

In the FA Cup, Chelsea bowed out to Manchester City at Wembley Stadium in the last four. In the League Cup, they were also ousted in the semi-finals, this time by Swansea City (0-2 on aggregate).
