Children from different tennis schools across the country joined the fun for the annual Tennis 10s festival hosted recently by the Malta Tennis Federation at the Marsa Sports Club with the support of GasanMamo Insurance.
Tennis 10s is a discipline that provides a sound developmental structure for players aged 10 and under, through three colour-coded stages – Red, Orange and Green.
“Smaller, Slower, Easier” is the main slogan for Tennis 10s and its main purpose is to put into place a three-stage version of tennis de-signed specifically for beginners.
The tournament, organised in accordance with the new tennis formats adopted by the International Tennis Federation, saw participants in the Orange and Green Festival playing with smaller-sized rackets, softer balls and reduced courts.
The day ended with Alex de Gabriele edging Ben Azzopardi in a thrilling Green Festival final in front of a crowd of enthusiasts.
In the Orange title match, Kurt Cassar took the honours after beating Alexander Spiteri.
“The Tennis 10s Festival has again been a resounding success,” Claire Arrigo, coordinator of the programme, said.
“To see such levels of enthusiasm from everyone involved is encouraging. Through GasanMamo’s re-peated support we are able to continue enjoying this eagerness of children to play the game.”
