A man has been arrested after attempting to assault Roderick Galdes, parliamentary secretary for rural affairs and animal rights.

He also threatened him.

The incident happened near the environment ministry in Sta Venera this afternoon when the man intercepted Mr Galdes as he arrived in his ministerial car.

The man blocked the ministerial car and them appeared to try to drive into it but stopped.

Officials eventually took him into the ministry where he could be heard hurling abuse. He later left and was arrested after Mr Galdes filed a police report.

It is understood that the man used to work in the Animal Welfare Department and today's incident involved allegations made against him.
