The part of St George’s Street in St Paul’s Bay (from HSBC up to Go) was successfully asphalted during the middle of summer last year, after so many years of neglect.
Thanks are due to mayor Mario Salerno and his fellow councillors for carrying out this much-needed job.
Yet, the pavements alongside this stretch of road are in a horrible state, with most of the tiles loose and cracked, more so after the heavy machinery completed the asphalt works.
There are also wild weeds growing profusely between the house-fronts and the inner edge of the disastrous pavements, giving a very shabby look to the whole area. Seeing is believing!
I have already written to the local council but apparently a lack of funds (a common denominator with a lot of local councils) is a problem. This letter is actually a direct appeal to the Roads Ministry.
Furthermore, apart from the permanent and summer residents staying here, a large number of foreign students learning English also use this street to get to the Global Village school further up the same road.
Residents and students have a dangerous habit of walking in the middle of the road.
Both sides of this street are always occupied with parked cars at all times of the day, a potential obstacle to commuters, who also run the risk of being hit by an oncoming car.
I am sure the relevant authorities will consider this complaint.
