Five months have gone into the year, nearly three months have passed since the last election, and we are still waiting for the cost of living increase promised in the last budget.

Can anyone please inform us when we are going to receive this money? What is holding the Government from implementing this electoral promise, which is now six months overdue?

The silence from the usual quarters regarding this matter is shattering and one is justified in asking what is preventing the unions from raising their voices against this injustice? Where are the GWU and the UĦM who were so persistent in their demands in the past? Has the change in Government brought a change in the way of doing things?

Has it gone into hibernation for the coming five years?

We can understand the Opposition’s silence because it is occupied with its internal matters, but where is the Opposition’s member shadowing the Social Services Minister?

It seems that the situation has changed from one extreme to the other.

In the past we had a situation where the Government was lambasted all the time from all quarters, including by many who called themselves independent.

Now we are in a position where all the armchair critics and defenders of the workers have gone into hibernation.

As they say history repeats itself.
