The women’s basketball team were off to a faulty start in the GSSE tournament yesterday when they succumbed to a 77-59 defeat to Iceland at the Arena D’Coque. Angela Adamoli’s girls were on the backfoot for much of the match as they failed to contend with the swift play of the Nordic team. Helena Sverrisdottir was the game’s leading scorer with 28 points while Brietta Thomas (left) was Malta’s best points-getter with 21. This evening Malta face a tough second match against favourites Luxembourg. On Tuesday, the hosts beat Cyprus 65-48.
