Cricket: England has been confirmed as the host country for the 2019 Cricket World Cup, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the ICC said yesterday. The tournament, scheduled to involve 10 teams, will be held in June at 10 different venues which will be announced later. ICC chief executive David Richardson said the World Cup attracted a broadcast audience in excess of 1.5 billion people. England hosted the first World Cup in 1975 and also staged the tournament in 1979, 1983 and 1999.

Golf: Italy’s Matteo Manassero has climbed to a career-high 28th in the world rankings following his play-off triumph in the BMW PGA Championship on Sunday. Manassero, 20, moved up from 57th in the standings after defeating England’s Simon Khan on the fourth extra hole to claim his fourth European Tour title. Despite letting a two-shot lead slip in the early stages of the final round, Lee Westwood moves from 12th to 10th after finishing ninth at Wentworth, while Khan is up to 147th from 384th.

Motor Racing: With a good luck charm he had given to a sick child back in his pocket, Brazilian Tony Kanaan won his first Indianapolis 500 on Sunday to end a decade of disappointment at the famed Brickyard. The former IndyCar champion captured the crown jewel of North American motor racing in his 12th attempt to complete his resumè, taking the chequered flag under caution after defending champion Dario Franchitti crashed with just over two laps to go. Colombia’s Carlos Munoz crossed the finish line second in his IndyCar racing debut.

Basket, NBA: Miami Heat displayed championship fight as they routed Indiana Pacers 114-96 on Sunday to regain control of the Eastern Conference Finals. LeBron James scored 22 points, Dwyane Wade had 18 and eight assists and the Heat used a complete team effort to overwhelm Indiana and grab a 2-1 best-of-seven series lead. It was the first home defeat of the play-offs for the Pacers, who will try to rebound in Game Four tonight back in Indiana.
