Qormi 4
Young Stars 3

(after extra-time – normal time: 3-3)

As league deciders go this definitely lived up to its billing and provided a classic.

The game swung to and fro and was finally decided in the fifth minute of the first period of extra time when Jonathan Borg slotted the winner for Qormi.

Before both teams settled into a rhythm, Young Stars drew first blood in the second minute when Mark Camilleri netted as a result of penalty corner action.

Not to be outdone, two minutes later, Qormi equalised when Juan Sarcia scored, again as a result of a penalty corner action.

Young Stars then piled on the pressure but did not capitalise from four penalty corners awarded to them.

In the 32nd minute, Borg shot Qormi ahead giving them a 2-1 lead which they held up to the half-time whistle.

After early Young Stars pressure at the start of the second half, Qormi went further ahead in the 44th minute when Sarcia netted his second goal and Qormi’s third.

This instigated an immediate comeback from Young Stars with Edward Hughes pulling one back in the 48th minute and Marvin Vella equalising five minutes later.

Both teams tried hard to win the game in normal time but there was no change to the score by the end of the match, and extra time was required to determine a winner.

Most of the exchanges took place in midfield but in the fifth minute Borg scored Qormi’s fourth which proved to be the winner.

Young Stars tried hard by winning four penalty corners in the second period of extra-time but to no avail, giving Qormi their fourth championship victory in a row.

Umpires: Luke Busuttil Leaver, Manuel Imbroll.

Sliema Hotsticks 3
Rabat 2

Officially, this was the last match of the 2012-13 championship.

Hotsticks had the better of the early exchanges, winning four penalty corners to Rabat’s one by the 18th minute.

Ryan Brincat shot just past the post for Rabat but Hotsticks drew first blood with a Shawn Grima goal on 27 minutes.

Rabat came out motoring in the second half and scored two goals in first six minutes through Jason Vella and Mario Galea.

True to form, Hotsticks reacted strongly and Grima notched his second goal before Steve Portelli made it 3-2 as a result of a penalty corner action.

After Ryan Dalli missed a chance to put Hotsticks further ahead, they did not capitalize on three other penalty corner opportunities but held out and went on to register a hard-earned victory despite Rabat’s late efforts.

Umpires: Paul Brincat, James Mizzi.
