Carmen Meilak, 44, was this morning accused of the attempted murder of her partner Alfred Farrugia, when she allegedly stabbed him on Saturday evening in Marsa.

The woman, of Racecourse Street, Marsa, was also accused of causing serious injury, illegal possession of a weapon and causing a disturbance.

Bail was granted against a personal guarantee of €10,000.

Police sources said the two had an argument outside their home. He had accused her of cheating on him and allegedly hit her. She ran into their house, grabbed a knife and allegedly stabbed him in his abdomen and left arm. He hit her with a piece of wood.

Mr Farrugia was seriously injured but is now in a stable condition. He is expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
