A court has turned down a request for bail filed by Nizar El Gadi, the Libyan man accused of killing his former wife Margaret Mifsud.

El Gadi is accused of having killed Dr Mifsud in her car in Bahar Ic-Caghaq on April 19 last year.

During bail considerations this morning, Police Inspector Keith Arnoud testified how Mr Al Gadi was very arrogant during investigations and had actually threatened him. His attitude, however, changed when he was arraigned over this murder case.

Defence counsel Martin Testaferrata Moroni Viani insisted that his client had a right for bail.

Dr Beryll Buttigieg from Attorney General's office said the accused did not have a permanent address and before his arrest had been living in a hotel.

The defence said the court could impose a place of residence as part of its bail conditions.

Mr Justice Lawrence Quintano rejected the bail request after a suspension of the sitting.
