CALAMATTA, on May 25, at St Vincent de Paul Residence, VINCENT, of Sliema, aged 77, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Loved and remembered by his children Romina and her husband Charles Portelli, Carlo and his wife Christa, grandchildren Alessio, Claudia and Lucia, great-grandchildren Alicia and Marley, his brother Anthony and his wife Natalie, his in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul Residence on Tuesday at 8.45am, for Sacra Cuor parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30am, followed by interment at Sta Marija Addolorata cemetery. Lord grant him eternal rest.

DE ROSSIUS. On May 22, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPHINE, aged 79. She leaves to mourn her loss her partner Arthur Styles, the management, staff, and residents at Prince of Wales Apartments, Sliema, especially Anna Gauci, her friends at the British Residents’ Association and other friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 1.15pm for the Holy Trinity church, Sliema, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

MAMO. On May 17, in Toronto, FRED, son of Nellie and Louis, passed peacefully away, aged 67. He will be missed by his partner Rachael, family and friends in Malta, UK and Canada. Rest in peace. Ella.

Maltese Catholicism in Detroit

Maltese Catholicism in Detroit: Identifying the changing role of the Catholic Church in the Maltese-American community of Detroit is the subject of the the 11th and final seminar in the University’s Work in Progress in the Social Studies series. It will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 7pm in the Faculty of the Built Environment, Room D (BEN D). The convenors are Paul Clough, Peter Mayo and Michael Briguglio.

The speaker is Marc Sanko, who was born and raised in Farmington, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. He is a current Ph.D. student at West Virginia University, having completed his Masters degree at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and his undergraduate degree at Michigan Technological University. Mr Sanko is an aspiring historian in the field of ethnic and labour studies.
