Maltese FIFA referee Marco Borg will be in charge of the international friendly between Italy and San Marino at the Stadio Dall’Ara in Bologna next Friday (kick-off: 20.45).

The match will be a warm-up for the Azzurri who play Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifying match on June 7 before the Confederations Cup in Brazil between June 15 and 30.

The last time Italy played in Bologna was in June 1999 – a European Championship qualifier against Wales which the hosts won 4-0. Before, Italy and San Marino played once, another friendly won by Arrigo Sacchi’s men 4-0 in Cesena.

In an all-FIFA refereeing team, Borg will have Ingmar Spiteri and Mitchell Scerri as assistants on the lines and FIGC’s Paolo Valeri fourth official.

This will be another stage in the on-going series of exchanges involving Malta FA match officials and their European counterparts.
