A record eight beaches, including one in Gozo, have reached the standard to qualify for the Blue Flag, Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella said today.

The blue flag beaches are St George’s Bay, Bugibba perched beach, Mellieha Bay, Qawra Point, Fond Ghadir, Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, Ramla l-Hamra Bay in Gozo and the Paradise Bay Hotel private beach.

Golden Bay has been designated a ‘Beach of Quality’.

Mr Vella made the announcement during an event at St George’s Bay in connection with European Maritime Day activities.

St George’s Bay was designated a blue-flag beach for a fifth year, the longest period in Malta.
