If you find yourself in an accident

Stop

Check if anyone is hurt. If needed, call an ambulance on 112.

Place a warning triangle 100 metres behind your car to warn traffic. If you don’t have one, open your bonnet as a warning.

If any witnesses saw the accident, take their contact details.

In case of an injury or damage to public property, call the nearest police station immediately and report the accident.

In the case of a front-to-rear collision you don’t need to call the traffic wardens or the police. You must clear the road immediately; the front-to-rear form should be completed and signed by all drivers involved in the accident. You don’t need to fill in the form at the place of accident. This just causes traffic and could be dangerous.

For any other type of car accident, call the traffic wardens on tel: 2132 0202. (Do not move your vehicle from the place of accident until the wardens arrive.)

If your vehicle is immobilised, phone RMF on 2124 2222.

Even if you believe you are at fault for the accident, do not admit liability at the scene.

Take photos if you have a camera.

After the accident: making a claim

Following any event which could lead to a claim under your insurance policy, you must notify your insurers in writing as soon as possible.

You will be required to pay the agreed excess.

You can have your car repaired at a repairer of your choice subject that the car is surveyed by an appointed surveyor and an estimate of the costs is approved by the insurers before starting repairs.

Every judicial notification or any other communication you receive relating to a claim must be sent to your insurance agency without delay.

In the event of any theft or other criminal act that may give rise to a claim, you or any other person claiming indemnity under your policy must immediately file a report with the police.

You or anyone insured under your policy must not admit anything or make any offer or promise about a claim, unless you have the insurance agency’s written consent to do so.

As the claim proceeds you should follow the recommendations of your insurance agent to make the claims procedure as quick and simple as possible.

Keep all receipts and copies of any letters linked to your claim.

Have these things in your car in case of an accident:
• First aid kit
• Warning triangle
• High-visibility vest
• Front-to-rear accident form
• Pen and paper
• Torch
• Camera
• Blanket
