Livelife Rehabiliation Centre, the first private specialised Physical Rehabilitation Centre in Malta, recently marked its first anniversary.
Located in the heart of Sliema, the centre is a joint venture between Caremalta Group and the St James Group.
In a short ceremony marking the occasion, attended by Family and Solidarity Minister Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, director Natalie Briffa Farrugia said that the average stay at Livelife of patients treated so far was just over 20 days, a period shorter than the normal average stay in other similar centres.
Furthermore, based on other international rehabilitation results the target rate of return to the community was 80 per cent, while at Livelife the rate is 93.3 per cent, she said.
Another director, Maria Bugeja, attributed this success to the state-of-art equipment at the centre as well as to the professional team working at Livelife.
The centre has a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team made up of nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and a health care assistant. Outpatient programmes are offered to clients who have not undergone inpatient rehabilitation at Livelife.
Livelife caters for orthopaedic conditions (amputees, sports injury, physical injuries, joint replacement), neurological conditions (spinal cord injuries, brain juries, stroke) and other conditions such as diabetes, respiratory conditions and swallowing disorders.
