Students from San Andrea Senior School and from of the Henri Ageron School of Vallon Pont d’Arc, in the South of France, have taken part in an exchange programme aimed at improving their French and English language skills while learning more about the cultures of the respective countries.

The French students spent a week in Malta. Apart from spending some time at the local school, they also visited the Ġgantija temples, the Citadel, the Azure Window, the inland sea in Dwejra, Ramla Bay, Mdina, the Malta Knights Museum, St John’s Co-Cathedral and the Upper Barrakka Gardens. They also watched the Malta 5D show.

The following week, the Maltese and French students flew to France together. They visited Nîmes, including its Roman Theatre Arena and Roman Tower, hiked through the beautiful Ardèche countryside, and visited the cave of Aven D’ Ognac and the Pont D’Arc natural arch carved out by the Ardèche River.

Students also had the opportunity of kayaking on the river rapids and under the arch.

Opportunities such as these have proven to be a true learning experience for the students whereby learning moves beyond the four walls of the classroom away from the traditional ways of teaching a language through writing and lists of written grammar rules.

The students were accompanied on the trip by French teacher Marielouise Kara and English teacher Lara Muscat.
