Calleja is a self-taught painter who, in his early 20s, held his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Valletta. The artist participated in various collective exhibitions and held numerous other solos. Calleja also boasts a long career in teaching. In 1978, he was appointed assistant to the late Vincent Apap at the School of Art in Valletta, where later, on Apap’s retirement, he continued giving his own class until the early 1990s.
Currently, he teaches art at San Ġorġ Preca College, Ħamrun.
The public lecture will take place at San Ġorġ Preca College (formerly Maria Assumpta Girls), Ħamrun, in the conference hall on Thursday at 6pm.
