Arriva is carrying out an internal investigation following media reports that an African man was dragged off a bus and insulted by inspectors.

The case, reported in l-Orizzont, took place last week on the St Julian's route.

Arriva said in a statement this evening that an initial investivation of the CCTV footage showed that a passenger was asked to present his ticket by an Arriva Inspector.

There seemed to have been some form of disagreement between the two and the bus was stopped while telephone calls were made to the inspector’s superior and the police, following allegations of aggressiveness from the passenger.

“CCTV footage shows that there was no physical contact between the two parties at any point. The passenger got off the bus of his own accord after being asked to leave,” Arriva said.
