White Hart 0
Young Stars 3

Young Stars beat White Hart in their last match of the league to finish on 18 points, the same as Qormi and now a decider will be played on May 26 to determine this year’s champions.

After the early sparring, Young Stars started to exert pressure on the White Hart rearguard and Marvin Vella went close to scoring for Young Stars on eight minutes.

Five minutes later, Chris Attard shot the Stars ahead when he pounced on a rebound and slotted home. The score became 2-0 soon after as Mark Camilleri beat the keeper following a penalty corner action.

David Agius nearly pulled one back for White Hart in the 30th minute when he hit a beauty which curled the wrong side of the post.

The second half started with Young Stars winning four penalty corners in succession, Camilleri having a shot deflected on to the bar off the goalkeeper’s gloves in the process.

Camilleri notched his second goal on 40 minutes, from yet another penalty corner action, to put Young Stars 3-0 ahead.

White Hart reacted strongly but could not take advantage of five penalty corners which they won in quick succession around the half-way mark.

The Young Stars defence was tested on a couple of occasions towards the end with Paul Tor-piano shooting wide when in a favourable scoring position.

Young Stars played out time to win the match and force a title showdown against Qormi.

Umpires: Luke Busuttil Leaver, Manuel Imbroll.
