Two migrants escaped from a window of a minibus when they were taken to Mater Dei Hospital this afternoon, but they were re-arrested after a chase by detention officers.

The Detention Service said the two were in a group of Somalis that arrived in Malta on Friday.

Today, 40 of the new arrivals were escorted to Mater Dei Hospital by nine Detention Service Officers for medical screening. On arrival at Mater Dei in two mini buses the migrants were escorted in small groups to the x-ray department by five detention service officers while the rest remained on the minibuses guarded by four officers.

At about 2.45pm two immigrants escaped by jumping out of a minibus window. They ran towards the Birkirkara bypass.

Three officers gave chase and managed to apprehend them. They were subsequently taken to Msida Police Station and handed over to the police.
