Former Sliema mayor Nikki Dimech this morning filed a civil suit against Polidano Brothers claiming damages.

Mr Dimech, 33, claimed he was owed some €70,000 for financial services he carried out in mitigating a €2.3 million tax bill for the company.

He asked the court to order the payment of the remaining balance.

In March, the former mayor, who was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment for bribery last December, was charged with defrauding the company of some €24,000.

He pleaded not guilty to falsifying Charles Polidano’s signature to take what he claimed was rightfully owed to him for consultancy services.

The alleged offence took place sometime between June 2010 and March 2011.

Mr Polidano and his brother Paul denied to police that they had ever engaged Mr Dimech.
