Two businesses were briefly shut down last month by the Health authorities due to imminent risk to public health.

They were Papillon Caterers at Triq tal-Handaq, Qormi and Lelmar Bar, St. Francis Street, Rabat, which were allowed to reopen  once remedial action was taken by the food business operators to remove the risk.

In its usual report on its activities, the Environment Health Directorate said that during April it issued a total of 583 improvement notices after inspections of businesses.

62.75kg of foodstuffs were destroyed.  The foodstuffs included 7kg of bakery goods, 7.5 kg chicken drumsticks, 5.9 kg of bean, s2.75 kg vegetable oil, 28 lts of softdrinks and ;11.6 lts of wine.

16 melamine plates were also destroyed following a rapid alert notification.

Eight adverts involving Tobacco products and including electronic cigarettes in breach of Tobacco (Smoking Control) Act were noticed on local sites and the respective advertisers and webmasters were instructed to remove, something which was actually complied with.

One advert of tattoo equipment was also noted to be contravention of the Control of Tattooing Act.
