Newark School has won the Catch the Drop poster competition with its entry Every Little Helps.
Catch the Drop is a national environmental and educational campaign for sustainable water, sponsored by HSBC Bank.
To raise awareness, 460 primary and secondary students from 13 schools gathered in front of St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta carrying signs and slogans promoting the sustainable use of water.
‘‘The campaign offers a strategic path towards sustainable water conservation in Malta. The bank’s funding will breathe new life and energy into the initiative and will contribute towards its implementation over the next three years,” said Francis Sullivan, regional head of Corporate Sustainability, Europe and adviser on the environment.
A song was also composed by two teachers from Newark School. The lyrics were written by Tania Pintley, while music was composed by Alessandro Guintini.
School principal Rosanne Galea said these initiatives were a great way to teach children about the environment and particularly about the use of water.
Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi gave out the prize during a presentation ceremony at the Barrakka Gardens, Valletta.
