The San Mikiel is-Sanċir chapel was in danger of collapse, the non-governmental organisation, Ħbieb il-Kappelli Maltin, said.

It said in a statement, the NGO said that the chapel, which is situated at Fiddien, limits of Rabat, dated back to medieval times.

Several cracks and vegetation could be seen on its walls and some roof slabs had already fallen down.

The chapel was surrounded by rubbish and its door was blocked by a field full of cane plants.

“It needs immediate restoration and the lane which leads to it needs re-surfacing.”

Ħbieb il-Kappelli Maltin said it had a detailed study of what could be done for the chapel and its environs to be rehabilitated.
