Gianluca Bezzina’s clear voice accompanied by the cheery notes of the ukulele resounded throughout Sweden’s Malmö Arena yesterday afternoon, as the young singer and his team successfully completed their second rehearsal on stage.

Following his first rehearsal on Wednesday, Gianluca was visibly more relaxed, as his performance received a warm round of applause by the audience present.

PBS chief executive officer Anton Attard was pleased with the outcome, saying that 90 per cent of the changes requested by the Maltese delegation were successfully affected.

“Most of the changes we asked for were more of a technical nature, relating mainly to camera work and angles,” Mr Attard told The Sunday Times of Malta.

“We also asked to brighten up the general atmosphere to reflect the song’s jolly and upbeat quality.”

The backing vocalists, band mates and Gianluca himself will all be ending the song on the bench, as seen in the music video. During yesterday’s rehearsal, the bench was moved from the side of the stage to the centre. Gianluca will be concluding his performance with his signature salute.

“The performance is very simple really. We’re banking on Gianluca’s charm and charisma to win them over”.

And his sunny disposition has been serving him well, with many foreigners taking to blogs and comments boards to remark on his winning smile and engaging personality.

On Thursday, he visited a children’s hospital at Skane University in Lund, where he helped paint many a smile on the children’s faces. The hospital provides paediatric intensive care for children from neonatal to adolescents from all over Sweden.

Yet according to William Hill, one of the largest bookmakers in the UK, Malta’s position in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 is not very strong, with odds of 80/1 of winning. The betting market currently favours Denmark, with odds of 5/4 of winning.

Gianluca will be representing Malta in the second semi-final held on Thursday. He will be the sixth to sing. The first 10 placed countries will make it to the final on Saturday.
