I congratulate Paul Galea for his letter (‘The Kappara nightmare’, The Sunday Times of Malta, April 28) in which he shared his thoughts about how one can go about minimising – close to resolving perhaps – this problem.
The relevant authorities should think outside the box
It is indeed captivating that he suggests basic, simple and low-cost solutions, which also take into account residents’ comments and ongoing resistance at monstrous projects previously conceived without consultation, in order to come close to effectively addressing the tumultuous traffic confusion that characterises this intersection.
The relevant authorities should think outside the box and look into all straightforward and potentially cheaper answers to the resolution of traffic congestions and bottlenecks, and concurrently build into their recommended solutions the issues which are raised by all interested stakeholders.
Introducing motorists’ courtesy is also a common denominator to any chosen solution. Unless we have the basic elements of good traffic management in place, we cannot even start contemplating on how traffic flows on our roads can be improved and brought into line with established standards.
