The unique oratory of St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta, with one of the oldest 17th-century church organs in Europe, will be the venue of an organ recital given by renowned organist Diego Cannizzaro. The recital is being held on Friday at 7.30pm.

Cannizzaro will be playing 17th-century works by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Gioanpietro Del Buono, Bernardo Storace and including Maltese composers Francesco Azzopardi and Luigi Grech.

The organ is said to have its own unique quality, not found in more recent instruments. It has been recently renovated in Padova.

Mgr John Azzopardi will give a short talk on the Maltese composers and the music recently discovered at the Cathedral Archives in Mdina and the Wignacourt Museum in Rabat.

The event is being organised by the Rotary Club Malta, the Rotary Club Cefalù and St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation in aid of Dar il-Kaptan. For reservations send an e-mail to tonio.cuschieri@gmail.com.
