The European Kata judo cham-pionships will be staged at the Cottonera Sports Complex bet-ween May 18 and 19 with the participation of martial artists and officials from 19 nations.
This will be the 10th edition of the championships and the second time to be hosted by the Malta Judo Federation following the tournament of 2008.
In conjunction with the European Championships, the Maltese federation will organise the Koshiki No Kata European Cup whose purpose is to preserve the historical source of judo.
This competition gets underway on May 19. Following this event, the best three couples in each Kata age group will perform again to select an overall winner.
During the weekend, the federation will also host the Judo Show European Cup, a technical confrontation of fight simulation containing techniques of judo and self-defence.
In this performance, the judoka put forward his/her technical skills within the rules of the judo spirit.
Joseph Muscat and Joseph Bonello will be representing the country in Katame no Kata and the local pair in Ju no Kata (forms of gentleness) will be Ivan Esposito and Tiziana Apap.
Ray Fava and George Fabri will put their skills into action prac-tice at the Kime no Kata com-petition.
